Sound Settings Not Being Saved By Yast

I am having issues with sound on my Dell Inspiron 15 (3501). I’ve tried all the different solutions in the forums, but nothing solves this. When sound is not playings in Firefox, the only thing that fixes it is to go into Yast → Hardware → Sound and configure the sound card. This fixes it temporarily. I end up doing this several times a day. When I go into Yast → Sound, it says my sound card is not configured.
In fact, I just configured the sound card, went back into settings, and it says my sound card is not configured.
Info for my laptop: multimedia codecs are from Packman. Desktop is KDE.

Can you show the output from

I’ve narrowed it down to the alsasound.service. I have to start it manually and hope it works. I started the service twice and the sound started working in Firefox only after starting it the second time. After rebooting, the sound didn’t work until I started the alsasound.service.

You still haven’t shared the alsa-info.sh diagnostic output as requested. Refer to the wiki link I provided previously.

FWIW, I have seen similar reports whereby this hardware is not operational following a cold boot, but does survive reboots. In any case, show the output from
sudo systemctl status alsa-restore
after a cold boot and no manual attempt to start sound.

I also found something interesting. When I keep pavucontrol running on the desktop, there are no issues with sound. When I don’t, I have to open pavucontrol, click on the ‘configuration’ tab, uncheck the ‘profile’ box and then check the ‘profile’ box. Then the sounds start working again, but only as long as I keep pavucontrol running. I’m attaching an image of the pavucontrol configuration tab.

The output you’ve shared shows that PipeWire and PulseAudio are both active. I’m not sure that this necessarily presents a problem, but perhaps you might try replacing PA with ‘pipewire-pulse’ (a daemon so PulseAudio applications could use PipeWire as the backend). Install with

`sudo zypper in pipewire-pulseaudio’

Reboot, or restart the desktop at least (with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace), and see if the behaviour is different.

I am not familiar with pipewire.
I tried to install 'pipewire-pulseaudio" but it gave me this:

Yes, allow it to remove PulseAudio. Only PipeWire is required (along with the compatibility daemon I mentioned previously).

This is an old thread … but did you notice this entry:

My experience is that warning about ABI topology suggests your version of sof_firmware may not be the correct version for your installed kernel.
