Sound Problems Dell Inspiron 6400

i’m just trying openSuse 11.1 for the first time on a Dell Inspiron 6400.

So far, everything is ok, got the graphics working okay, sounds works to a degree… let me explain

sound plays, mp3 will play - but the problem comes when i start to do other things, when i do the sound start the crackle (even minimizing windows, scrolling, etc all cause the audio to crack up) and its very annoying…

i’m not sure what i would need to post configuration wise, so let me know…

The first thing I typically do is go to YAST > Hardware > Sound > Other > Volume and move the volume levels there for PCM and master volume up very high. Then I close YaST. Next I open my mixer and move down the volume levels for both PCM and master volume to a lower level, to try eliminate any crackle.
