i installed opensuse 11.3 KDE for the first time last week
amarok works fine with mp3 files
also i installed VLC and kaffiene with all available codecs but unfortunately i have no sound in my avi movies a can not know what is the reason although it was working fine in windows
can anyone help me in this

Try installing and running the mmcheck diagnostic script as noted in this how-to/faq:
MultiMedia Checker or mmcheck - Check Your openSUSE MultiMedia Setup in Just 16 Steps
… it may point out what you have set up incorrectly.
Check the volume. The PCM channel defaults to 0 and you have to turn it up.
