sound problem with acer-4930

Hi to all.
I’m new for Linux and recently i implement suse linux 10.3 in my acer(4930) laptop. Everything works fine but i can’t get sound and i can’t play any video file(it gives a message i.e; “required codec is not found”)

so anyone who can help me please give solution to my problem keeping in mind that I’m a newbie for linux

openSUSE-10.3 is relatively old, but it is still supported. The newer openSUSE versions are in the most part superior when it comes to automatic hardware detection.

You could try working your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

Unfortunately that guide assumes a certain level of Linux knowledge, so you will likely be forced to learn more how Linux works in order to get this functioning better.

BUT please run the sound test from that guide. If ANY ONE of the 3 tests work (just one is needed) then your problem is only a codec problem, and not a sound configuration problem.

If you find the guide too complex, please post here again asking for help.

thanx for quick responding and will follow the guide to get sound in my lappy.

i’l post the result of the tests whether success or failure in my try to get sound.
until…bye

Note if you edit the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file, you should first try the model option closest to your acer-4930
