Sound problem but no problem with video, doing kaffine file.flv

kaffeine file.flv.
Video is ok.

But can’t understand any sound.
It’s a harsh sound.

  1. Check the PCM level in your mixer.
  2. Did you follow the guide on restricted media?

There are 2 different packaged versions of kaffeine : Packman packaged version and SuSE-GmbH packaged version. Packman packaged version has “pm” in the version number. Which kaffeine version are you using? Whic openSUSE version are you using?

kaffeine allows selection of gstreamer or xine as the input sound engine. Which one are you using?

kaffeine-0.9+1.0pre2-3.1.i586
openSUSE 11.2 (i586)
VERSION = 11.2

Your kaffeine version is not the packman packaged version, which is the version I recommend. I recommend you read and follow this guide of caf4926: Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

You did not answer my question as to what sound engine you are using (gstreamer or xine) so I assume that means you do not know how to check that ? If you are using KDE, take a look at KMENU > Configure Desktop > Multimedia, and the backend/sound-engine used by KDE will also be the one used by kaffeine. If you have the xine sound engine installed (possibly also with phonon-xine) then you may also wish to install xine-ui so that you can go into xine, change permissions to “master of the known universe” (or something hokey like that) and tune the sound backend that xine in turn uses.

If you know and have applied all the above already, apologies. It was difficult to tell from the detail in your post.

From KMENU > Configure Desktop > Multimedia>backend tab>it’s xine.

I reran this command:

zypper in libavcodec52 ffmpeg libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libffmpeg0 libquicktime0 libxine1 libxine1-codecs libxvidcore4 w32codec-all xvidcore

Some packages are upgraded and one new package is installed.May be this one package is libx64 or like this.
It’s fixed now.I don’t know where was the problem.

Whats important is it is fixed. Glad to read it is working now.
