Hi, I’m using pulse audio sound server in opnsuse 11.3 and latest version of flash player, The problem is playing video or sound with flash player in firefox, Once I play something in firefox sound output it seem like closed to other applications like amarok. So what can I do to fix this? TNX
The two possibilities that I read about are (1) to tune pulse audio so that multiple applications can use the same audio device at the same time (I don’t use pulse so I can’t help there), or (2) setup your desktop to use the alsa API (I have no idea how to do that with gnome).
I’m using KDE (4.4.4 i586) so can you please tell me about second method?
Under KMENU > Configure Desktop > General > Multimedia > Backend ensure you have selected the xine backend. Note you will need the package phonon-backend-xine installed.
Also ensure you have the Packman package libxine1 installed (and NOT the Novell packaged libxine1). You can tell a packman packaged version by the pm in the file name.
Also install the package (also from Packman) xine-ui.
Then with ‘xine-ui’ installed, run xine, and under settings > setup > audio try a different setting, such as ‘oss’ or ‘alsa’ . Note xine will need high permissions set to do this (its called ‘master of the known universe’ or something silly like that).
Then in your other multimedia applications, ensure you have the ‘alsa’ api selected.
Note this only works for hardware that is adequate for the ‘alsa api’ to function properly.
