sound not working in 11.0

Sound was working for me at one point, then it stopped. Naturally one of the updates probably broke something, I did apply a kernel update at one point.

Anyway lspci -v tells me this:

00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia
Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems Device 2621
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
	Memory at fe020000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
	Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
	Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

If I go to sound under yast it has the model as SBx00 Azalia and the driver is snd-hda-intel which tracks with that lspci says.

Then if I go up under the gnome menu and goto system->sound which brings up sound preferences, no matter what I choose when I try to test I get an error about “could not open audio device for playback”.

You could try working your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

… if you are convinced the kernel update broke your sound, you could install the latest alsa driver associated with your kernel for openSUSE-11.0: Alsa-update - openSUSE Note there are 6 zypper commands you must send when updating alsa via that guide.
