Sound muted

Every time i boot my computer, the sound is muted. I use openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.1. I’ve already done some googling and searchs on this forum, but I’ve never found a solution (at least not one that actually works).

I would guess that is down to the problem with the recent pulse audio problem.

Do a ‘search’ on the forum - as it makes sense to remove this.

I have the same problem. Sound always muted after a boot. Although my hardware is configured correctly and I have it selected as my preference. Pulse also tests fine, just not my preference. I have had various audio problems since the kernel change.

The point of dth2’s post is that deleting pulseaudio will probably fix this problem. openSUSE will just use Alsa instead, so make sure it’s installed. It is by default.

And you should really consider upgrading to KDE 4.2 as there has been a lot of bug fixes and added functionality.

I’ve also had this same problem with 11.2-M3 KDE4.3-RC2. Tried something
weird today and it worked. I changed my logon splash screen! On one machine
I changed from KDE to SUSE and vice versa on another. Problem gone on both
machines after reboot. No idea why it worked.

Having said that, sound is OK on 11.1 KDE4.3-RC2 partition. Luck?
