Sound goes to speakers, not bluetooth headphones

System is openSUSE 12.3 KDE 32-bit on a ThinkPad X-41. I have a Plugable USB-BT4LE Bluetooth 4.0 USB Adapter and EElectronics Air-Fi AF32 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headphones. The KDE bluetooth tools show the headset is paired and connected. However, when I play an audio file, the sound comes from the laptop speakers, not the headphones.

How do I direct the sound to the bluetooth headphones?

Thanks,
Howard

My guess is that the blue tooth device will show up as a USB sound device.

I would recommend you install and use the application ‘pavucontrol’ (pulse audio volume control) and with that application running, and when you are playing a multimedia file with a multimedia application, redirect the sound to the USB sound device (using pavucontrol).

I have a blog entry on pavucontrol here: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/oldcpu/pulseaudio-basics-opensuse-pavucontrol-96/

Thanks, oldcpu, that fixed it. In the pavu window when playing a file with VLC, on the Playback tab, beside the ALSA plug-in listing, there is a button that was on the built-in sound. Clicking the button gives a drop-down list that includes the bluetooth headphones as their name “AF32”. I clicked that, and there was sound.

The pavu window also had a configuration tab to switch the bluetooth profile to the A2DP setting that goes with these headphones.

Best regards,
Howard

Great news. Glad to read that. Thanks for sharing your solution.
