Suse 10.3 KDE 3.5.7
I have an onboard sound card and a second PCI sound card. Both have been configured and tested in Yast. Prior to the addition of the second card all sound applications ran correctly.
aplay -l produces…
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: ICE1724 [ICEnsemble ICE1724], device 0: ICE1724 [ICE1724]

card 1: ICE1724 [ICEnsemble ICE1724], device 1: IEC1724 IEC958 [IEC1724 IEC958]

Yet when I try to set card1 as the default ALSA device in KDE Control Center>Sound & Multimedia>Sound System>Hardware>Override device location, clicking the “apply” button causes a sound server crash. I have tried hw:1,0 hw:1,1 hw:ice1724 and every other possible combination I can think of. The only one it will accept is hw:0,0.
I have the same problem when I try to configure Amarok or Kaffeine to use card1. The interesting thing is that Yast produces a successful test on either card. What am I doing wrong?
