Sound comes strange in dvd songs

hi,

i’m playing a dvd with kaffeine, i can listen to the music but the can’t hear the singer (the cure dvd set, trilogy, disintegration, plainsong is the song’s title)
i already went thru various tutorials and multimedia check ups but so far i still have bad sound on my pc :frowning: ( MMCHECK - Version 2.41 - Check Your Multimedia in 16 Steps - Bash Script File - Blogs - openSUSE Forums for example)
Any tip/help is appreciated
Thanks

Is it possible you are hearing only one channel and not two, as is normal with stereo? I only ask because I have had this happen to me when using more than one computer on the same stereo system, not that this is required to have such a problem. I often pull out a small stereo radio, tape player, MP3 player with a headphone jack known to be good and put it in place of my computer and it helps determine who is not working properly, the computer or the stereo speakers. Anyway, it is just a thought.

Thank You,

hi,
in the dvd settings i chose LPCM stereo, if i change this for 5.1 dolby digital surround it does not help.
Using Vlc is not better.
Using smplayer seems better , how do i had actions so that i have the choice after inserting the dvd to open it with smplayer ?

Dvd plays ok in windows.

So to get SMPlayer as an option in KDE, you need to go to Menu / Configure Desktop / Device Actions and add SMPlayer as a DVD player. Just look at one of the others said to play a DVD and make the SMPlayer simular, program name was **smplayer %U, **but I have much better luck with VLC myself. Log in and out so as to have this new option in the Device Notifier when you put in a disc. Can you tell me more about your audio setup? What sound card or sound chipset is in your computer? How do you connect to your speakers and don’t leave out any audio equipment details.

Thank You,

Is this a 5.1 system ?

If so, try setting for 4.1 surround sound.

hi,

no it’s not a 5.1 system , i was just trying another option, just in case.

I’m using headphones, pluging the jack at the back of the pc.

i added smplayer as a device operation when inserting a dvd , i copied “play a dvd with kaffeine” settings, but the command ( smplayer %U).
it does open smplayer but it is closed immediately after. Kaffeine uses a command that i’m gonna try also for smplayer ( smplayer --dvd %25d )
for i need to close my session in order to try a 2d time i’ll add in this sentence if this 2d command test is ok.

I assume then you have pulse audio selected as the output mode in your multimedia applications.

That being the case, IMHO the next place to tune is the configuration in the configuration tab of pavucontrol.

in smplayer the audio output driver is pulse, but in kaffeine and vlc i’m not sure where to set this up.

I don’t use kaffeine, but my guess is it will use what ever default setting is applied in KDE. I think for vlc to use pulse, one needs “vlc-aout-pulse” installed.
