At the moment I am running Opensuse 10.3 and have the Santa Cruz sound card. It works fine but it is almost 5 years old. I have just bought a new graphics card, MSI N9800GTX+ with 512 DDR3, and will be getting a new power supply next week, a 650W one. I am going to get a bigger case as well so that I have proper air flow.
What I am now looking for, specifically is a new sound card, one that will run with 11.0 “out of the box”. I found Novell’s HCL pages singularly unhelpful, since almost everything they had listed, in almost all the categories, only covered Opensuse upto 10.3. Does anyone have any recommendations on which card to get. I would like to have a card that is a minimum of a 5.1.
If ALSA supports it - so does SuSE. It’s a big list - you could take a look at some popular cards and then compare them to the list on ALSA projects website.
I myself have an old Audigy 1&2, they both work great.
It is beller you go with cmedia… Its driver support for linux is excelent… don go for usb sound card… It is real pain to get 5.1 out… Don trust what matrix says… Mean the card will be suppported but it might not be fully supported…
Like my onboard cmedia usb sound device…
I use creative CA106 card… Which is good… But little choppy in suse comapred to others(don know why)sound is good… get 5.1 for 5.1 movies and all are good… except surround for mp3… Can work around though using alsa configuration file…
