sound and efficts in Acer aspire 5050

Hi
i have just finished installing OpenSuse 11.1 on my Acer aspire 5050:

  • AMD Turion 64X2 processor
  • ATI Radeon xpress 1100
  • not sure about the sound card but when i want to download the windows driver it gives me Realtek

everything is working fine, except 3 things, first of all 3d effects could not be enabled, i have downloaded the Radeon express 200 driver from AMD site, which enabled the 3d effects.
but when i run open GL screen saver, the screen saver runs smoothly but freeze -some times- when i want to use the laptob again

the other 2 things are, i couldn’t run the sound card :’( nor the bluetooth

I’ve read this model laptop may have ACPI problems. … I read of a case where a user rolled back the BIOS to an older version to get the functionality they wanted:
Acer 5050-4570

Reference your sound, try working your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

To determine if you have sound, please copy and paste the following speaker-test into a Gnome terminal or a kde konsole: speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twavYou should hear a female voice saying ‘FRONT LEFT’, ‘FRONT RIGHT’ five times.

If you have no success with the audio troubleshooting guide, then I will need more information if I am to make a recommendation … So can you provide more very detailed information so a good recommendation can be given? You can do that, with your PC connected to the internet, by opening a gnome-terminal or a kde konsole and typing:
/usr/sbin/alsa-info.shthat will run a diagnostic script and post the output to a web site on the Internet. It will give you the URL of the web site. Please post that URL here. (Just the URL) It may be that you need to run that script with root permissions. Please note that I need that output to understand better your PC’s configuration.

Also, please copy and paste the following commands one line at a time into a gnome-terminal or a konsole and post here the output: rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/soundI also need that output. Hopefully with that I can make a good recommendation.

thanks fr the response, and sorry for not replying quickly

OK, there is a problem here. Linux is not like Windows. You don’t install 4 different drivers, in the hope that one will work. If a driver does not work, you remove it and replace it with the proper driver. In this case you need alsa-driver-kmp-default, but you do not need the alsa drivers that are in “red” above. Remove those, restart your PC, and then test your audio.

aggggggggggg>:(

i have been in one of the worst situation i had in 2 years

ok…

in the first installation i installed 32bit suse on 64bit processor which is ok, but installing 64bit driver done the job:P

the i had to reinstall the right DVD (64bit this time) and do the installation from scratch, but i really cant even get the 3d working at all :frowning:
i tried to flush the BIOS but i dont have any tool to do so:(

on the other hand the sound still not responding

If you re-installed openSUSE ?? , and if your sound does not work, then in order for me to help, you will need to again provide more information. … So can you provide more very detailed information so a good recommendation can be given? You can do that, with your PC connected to the internet, by opening a gnome-terminal or a kde konsole and typing:
