SOS – Suse 11

Hi All,

I’m really new to Suse & this scenario I’m going to explain below. My aim is to create a PC. With an 80 GB HDD that holds multiple OS’s such as Windows XP, Win 2K3 Server, & Suse 11. Also it is required that the OS partitions are ghosted & the image to be put in anther partition of the same HDD(If this partition could be hidden that will be great ) so it could be locally re-imaged using ghost at any time. Is ghosting possible with Suse 11 ? How can I use Suse boot loader to run all 3 OS’s & locally re-image the PC (GRUB boot scripting) Like I said im really new to SUSE so your kind help is much appreciated

You can use nortons ghost to copy a Linux partition IMHO. You acn use the Linux Partimage program (running on a bootable CD, like ghost) to image windows and Linux partitions.

How can I use Suse boot loader to run all 3 OS’s

There are many ways. Here’s one:
Install the windows distros first. Then install the openSUSE distro. That last will write Grub code to the Master Boot Record whereby booting will point to a file called menu.lst on Suse. That file has pointers to all the windows partitions where you can choose to boot any of them from the Grub menu. Ony one of the windows entries will work (the entry that points to the first partition) because windows rolled it’s bootloaders into the first partition to generate the standard windows multiboot. The upshot is that when you boot you get Grub menu where you choose either the first windows partition or the Suse partition. If you choose the first you get the windows bootloader where you select which windows to boot. If you choose the second you get into Suse. Cool result.
