HI I have to deal with a Sony MP3 player model NWZB142 which my girl has got. Cannot seem to be able to just move files on and off it. I can get some files off but it takes hours to get a few bytes off let alone an entire song.
Sorry too much festive spirits to think as clearly as I should.
SUSE 11.2
I had just tried to use normal cp and mv as this worked fine on my old no-name MP3 player (which just worked like a USB) however this Sony thing looks as if they want to be a pain in the ass. On my work computer set up same as this one here at home then it was easy enough to browse through using copy and paste, what could be different?
Are you saying this in respect to this Sony device?
It’s quite likely, at least in my mind that Sony would be troublesome.
Can’t say I have a solution. Trial and error.
I guess the device gets picked up as a mass storage device and is mounted as a USB storage device?
Personally I would probably format it, but you’ll probably find it will loose functionality if you do that. I can’t really tell from here.
Sony does not like sharing. I once was given a Sony walkman, about two years ago. It absolutely refused to play with Linux, at all. After three days of headbanging frustration I took it back and got something else.
Have you tried using JSymphonic? It works with my old NW-E00x Walkman. The program is a Java executable, so you will need Java installed for it to work. If it doesn’t execute when you double/right click it, open a terminal in the directory containing the file and type ‘java -jar JSymphonic_v0.3.0b.jar’ or you can set the default “Open With” action in the properties menu of the file.
To see if your Walkman works before you try JSymphonic, check this list. If it’s not there, try the software anyway or try install the proprietary Windows software via WINE or in a virtual machine.
