im helping my buddy out and trying to get his wireless working, and im struggling, im a mac guy, windows was consistently crashing on him and it was bad, so today i looked at the options, we were going to do the 10.4.1 OSx86 swap but issues with sound and displays, so i decided to get openSUSE for him, his using a Dell inspiron 1300 with the intel celeron 1.6ghz and 1gb of ram, so linux was a good choice because of the low memory usage. Any way!!!
the issue im having is a cant get the wireless working, its a BCM4318, 1370 WLAN mini-pci card, ssb kernel driver, and im at a loss, trying to install drivers as we speak in terminal, and the network manager is switched to ifup.
if anyone can give step by step to get this running, it would be epic thanks.
thanks guys i was able to get it to work after the firmware was installed and rebooted and getting off ifup. those pages helped alot plus I just got 6hrs of linux experience so yeah lol
yup along with that got GIMP, and vlc installed and changed the theme to a mac/glossy combo and got the app effects without freezing the computer. so it should be good for him to get and start playing in linux by job is done. this is better than windows but still cant say that about mac, i used to be pro windows all the way then finally saw how crappy windows is, switched to mac and never going back simple is that. but openSUSE changed my opinion on what a linux can be, fedora ubuntu etc… there all okay, but the fedora 11 from what i’ve seen (beta) the GUI is gonna pretty good. parallels allows me to run like 6os’s at once on my mac, i got mac running of course, now opensuse, backtrack 3, windows, fedora, and ubuntu, so i can pretty much run anything now! :D. thanks again.
