Some videos render with false colors on Chromium, render correctly on Firefox

Chromium does not correctly render videos. Firefox does.

Example, using Youtube: a search for

opensuse conference 2019

chromium, provides false colors
firefox, works as expected

Sound words correctly on both.

Note that this occurs on a wide variety of scenarios. However, sometimes, videos render correctly on both browsers.

I think there is some setting that is not installed correctly by default on the Linux chromium browser.

Any ideas?

I tried that suggested search, and I played the first video listed.

I could not tell the difference between firefox and chromium.

Well, I could – it was about 20% larger in firefox than in chromium. But I could not tell any difference in the colors.

Thanks for your reply.

Your setup must be correct. Mine must be in error.
I have the same problem on 3 machines. I’m not sure if there is some special setting in Chromium, or if I need to install a restricted codec.

You probably need to install a restricted codec.

Here’s some output:

# zypper se -i --repo packman libav

That should give an indication (incomplete, I’m sure) of what I have installed from packman repo.

I think those pull in any other needed packages. Hmm, maybe also “chromium-ffmpeg-extra” and “chromium-plugin-widevinecdm” might be needed.

Thanks for the reply.
I have all the codecs and files installed as suggested. It continues to do false colors on some video streams.
This is obviously a low-priority issue. I will just live with it and hope the next upgrade in May fixes the issue.
