I’m trying to understand the relationship between the KDE and/or Gnome … GUI? Is that what we call them? OR is the appropriate term “desktop environment”?
Are those different things?

I see information about x11 vs. Wayland.
How are those related to the KDE and/or Gnome?
I understand that Wayland is becoming the “standard”.

My system here with KDE 5.27.11 and Leap 15.6 kernel 6.4.0-150600.23.38-default (64bit) Graphics Platform x11.
But I don’t really get the difference I guess between a Graphics Platform and a GUI/desktop environment.
