Some problems with Amarok

Hi!

At first, sorry for my english. I’m from Spain, and I love openSUSE!!!

3 o 4 days ago I installed KDE 4.6 from KDE 46 repository and I upgrade my OS and some applications like Amarok. I had some problems so I erased .kde folder and reboot my computer. KDE 4.6 works fine and fast (in my opinion, faster than KDE 4.5) but I have problems with Amarok 2.4.

When I try to scan my music collection Amarok don’t find any song. I have a NTFS partition in my computer and I have all my music there. I mount the partition since fstab and in 6 months I didn’t have any problem. I can use Clementine for exmple and scan all my songs perfectly, but not Amarok.

I don’t know what I can do…

Sorry for my english again.

Good bye and thanks!!

Sorry but I can’t test it on a ntfs but it sounds like your music is accessible because you say Clementine is reading it OK.
Strange problem you have. Hope someone else can test this for you.

Thanks!

I try to copy some CD’s in my home folder and in a USB flash memory (fat32) and I have the same problem. I erase the config of amarok before. In my home we have ArchLinux, Debian, openSUSE and Sabayon (it depends of the people and the use) and I have the same problem with Amarok. I use the usb flash, an external HD (ntfs too) and copy to a folder of the /home. I’m thinking it an Amarok’s problem.

At this moment I’m compiling the git version of Amarok, maybe the problem is solved…

Thanks and good bye!

To get my Amarok in 4.6 to read my ntsf music files I had to change my fstab like this.

/windows/MediaG ntfs-3g defaults 0 0

Putting “defaults” in there did the trick.

I find the problem!!!

If I add some CD’s Amarok scan the collection, but if I try to add all it don’t check. So I started to add one folder, and if Amarok scan this I add the next. I find 3 o 4 folders Amarok don’t add. I saw the folders inside that and I saw some names had a telephone icon (?). I erased the icon and try again and at this moment I can scan all my collection.

Clementine didn’t have problems because it didn’t add this folder, like Amarok < 2.4 I think. But Amarok crash when found that. I think it could be interesting for some users

Thanks for all again!!

some names had a telephone icon
Umm…
Strange. If you had observed the .extension as in .mp3 or .ogg
That would have been more help.
But happy it’s working for you

All my music is in .mp3 format. I saw when the telephone icon appears and I edit the name (the telephone icon only appears in the name of the folder) between the words were 3 or 4 spaces. I erased the spaces and it works!

It’s very strange, but it works and I’m happy

Thanks for read me. I speak english like the Indians :frowning:

In Linux
File names are better without spaces. Eg:

this is a rubbish song.mp3
