Mail client ‘Evolution’ 2.30.0.1, closes after a few seconds.

Mail client ‘thunderbird’ 3.0.4, unable to create POP accounts.
I select “manual” mode, and create account for a POP3 server then
go back to check and the account is now a “IMAP” account.
This version of Evolution has a few critical bugs, including the one you report - which, unfortunately, cannot readily be reported through the automated system. However, most of them have been or are being addressed. Search the bug reports for details.
The issue with Thunderbird arises from some well-intentioned but arguable GUI choices made by the T-Bird developers rather than from any inherent bugs in T-Bird or openSUSE.
The solution is to stop the automated system as it searches for what it considers to be the optimal setup, and edit the setup in progress to set the preferred option to POP rather than IMAP before you select MANUAL and select out the detailed settings and options. This is little more than a time-consuming nuisance for the reasonably experienced user, but may well help complete newbies.
T-Bird 3.04 is otherwise a GOOD THING, and works just fine in my M5 installation (KDE).
I was just reporting what I found as it could confuse new users.
