Solutions for CPU temperature?

Hello, I need solutions for CPU temperature? some hardware information for my notebook

CPU:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz
GPU:
Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5600 Series]

Can you describe the problem you have for which you need a solution?

PC: oS 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.50GHz | KDE 4.6.3 | GeForce
9600 GT | 4GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.6.0 | nVidia
ION | 3GB Ram

I have a problem with temperature, and temperature is always 80-100

First thing which comes to my mind is - dust. Did you simply try to clean
the machine with canned air? Is the fan running if it is hot?
By the way is your machine over clocked or do you run it within the
specifications it is made for?

No.

Yes.

I really don’t know.

Try to clean it, if the fan is running and it is still so hot the most
likely answer is it is dirty. I was surprised with some of my own machines
(be it laptop or desktop) how fast dust can result in overheating.
If you do not know if it is overclocked it is most probably not, because
this is something some users do and it is not how the machine is
manufactured by default (I never do it, I like my systems to be stable and
live as long as possible).
If after cleaning you still have the problem report back. It may be that
someone who has the same model has some further ideas how to improve it.

this is most likely not an openSUSE problem, but rather a hardware (with
dust) problem as already mentioned in this thread…

you can pick up some good hints and tips in this thread:

You can also try, just in case… to test the temperature in a Windows XP installation. If the temperature is also high, its surely a hardware problem.

I used to have a notebook that someway… the cpu dissipator got loosy so it wasnt cooling as it should. Anyway the fan ran always high… but the air temp wasnt hot as it should. Hope it helps…

I had issue with cpu temp with an AMD system I have. One of the forum moderators clued me into the fact that KDE power management doesn’t have any control over cpu clocking. Which means that your system maybe running full out when it doesn’t need to.

He explained that Yast power management did control the cpu. I install it and my cpu cooled down by 20 degrees right off.

Also Radeon gpu’s tend to run hot in some models, I installed the ATI driver and adjusted performance setting. This knocked of another 10 degrees. However this fix caused other issue with sleep and hibernation. So it isn’t a fix I would recommend to a new user.

I agree with others that most likely its dust.
if its old laptop you can download manual for your model or look up in internet for videos on how to disconnect cover and clean heating.
You will be suprised when you see how much dust can be inside.
