Opensuse 11.1 Hi all webcam users with problems with cheese etc

Solution:

download VLC media player 1.0.0-git Goldeneye

in the Menu entry edit Command : LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so vlc %U

for i586 its /usr/lib/libv4l etc

now you can see your webcam Media/open disc/Capture Device
select Video for linux not Video for linux 2

and now Play your webcam is on screen compleet with snapshot

Side effect ditch KsCD player

Vlc can play cd’s perfectly with extended titles

you webcam is in the top of the play list so you can select it there press playlist icon of vlc

Hi,

I have a dell inspiron 1525, my webcam works fine with skype, even with sitckam.com, but with cheese I get nothing, just colored stripes.

Should this solution work for me? I’m new with openSUSE since I used Debian (and other deb package based distro)
