Software to synchronize?

I think the idea is quite exciting! So, it should probably be possible to synchronize data on multiple computers. It would solve a lot of admin problems…but does it really work? Has someone already experience with synchronizing data like that? I am much on the way and therefore seek a possibility to access my working folders, important files and e-mail from my Notebook and Desktop Pc. I already heard of a lot of Sync programs and wanted to ask for your experiences in general. Perhaps someone has a tip on how to do this the easiest way? Greetings, mary

I have been using unison for years. It’s quite simple and always works nicely for me.

unison is great. we use it at work with our laptops
and there have never been a problem so far.
try it

At work I use iFolder (a Novell product, now open source I believe) and
it is great. It is cross-platform and I run the client on whatever
machines I need. There is a server piece that stores data centrally,
quotas, sharing among users I believe, and your users can run the client
on as many boxes as they like and differences among the clients are all
synchronized together. Pretty slick, I think.

Historically ‘rsync’ has been the synchronization tool for admins (for
decades) though that’s probably a bit much on its own for end users
unless you set it up so it’s invisible (not impossible).

Good luck.
