software access after 11.3 install

Greetings!!

How do I close the application as stated in the following and what is the permanent fix?:

System management is locked by the application with pid 4820 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd).
Close this application before trying again.

Would you like to abort or try again?

thanks much

In the panel, the updater applet can be configured via right click, quit and select do not start a boot.

Then reboot and you should be good. I get rid of it too, it drives me nuts.

Is that a KDE app? I am using Gnome and do not see applet you mention.

The problem is that you have more then one application trying to update/check for updates of the system at the same time. Only one is allowed at a timeā€¦ The usual culprit is the automatic updater that will periodically check for updates. If it is running and you go int Yast software or any other update like software you will get the message. Either wait till it is done or you can kill the process with kill PID where PID is the process ID returned in the message.
