so is windows gone???

like dont get me wrong guys, im not planning on not having OpenSUSE.
But for me windows is kinda of a need.

I do these things in Windows

Tmobile G1 Tether on long trips.
Fruity Loops
Adobe Photoshop/Flash/Dreamweaver
Notepad++
FTP Stuff
Local Shared Files/Folders from 3 other Windows’s Xp and vista ( <<< important)

Now, I understand that I can browse the net… write articles and etc with OpenOffice and stuff… but i still wanna have windows.

Now, till i get the dvd… can someone tell me how to change the resoution of the screen… and how to get my wireless to work ?
Those are the main ones i need to start on it.
(i tried something CTRL+ALT+ + or - ) … that just does something in the background… but not the actual screen.

Thanks!

sorry to break it to you this way, but that stuff is all GONE!!

you should have made a copy of it BEFORE you started messing with the
petitioner…

If you mean in Virtual Box.

Virtual Box depends on the host machine, so you need to get suse’s internet working.

well i installed Opensuse… i saw something with network configuration… i thought it would pick it up,… but didnt…
so how can i make my internet work ?

You should start a new thread but here to start you away:
Getting Your Wireless to Work - openSUSE Forums

this assumes you mean wireless
if not, be specific and explain clearly what you need in the new thread in the network section

You better off contacting your computer manufacturer instead of M$ for your discs. And as far as internet, i used Auto-NDISwrapper.

Auto-NDISwrapper

it worked quite nicely if you can plug into your modem directly for a little bit.

how exactly do I use that one mjr4189?

Well, first you need to plug into your modem because the program is going to find your network card then it will go find the correct driver on the internet, unless you download the driver yourself and put it where it tells you.

Once you download the file Auto-NDISwrapper there will be and instruction text file inside the archive, just extract all the files in it and find the instructions. Tip, everything is done in terminal so whatch your typos

Hopefully that will get your internet up for the time being while you wait for windows discs.

hey i just downloaded and i got this

Auto-NDISwrapper 0.1
Please remember to always try to use the latest version of NDISwrapper with this script
[ERROR] NDISwrapper not found!!!
Please look for “ndiswrapper” in your distribution’s package manager and install it or go to Ndiswrapper.com - ndis wrapper Resources and Information. This website is for sale! and download the latest sources

Auto-NDISwrapper 0.1
Please remember to always try to use the latest version of NDISwrapper with this script
Sorry, card not yet supported by Auto-NDISwrapper

now what

Check this
HCL/Network Adapters (Wireless)/Broadcom BCM43xx - openSUSE

Sorry that didnt work for you, it worked with my Broadcom Card the BCM4328. Wireless internet in linux is alwasys such an issue for a lot of people. I would definitely try the page posted above as well becuause that is an actual driver release from broadcom made for linux to work with their BCM43xx cards. It offer a lot better connection stregnth than NDISwrapper as well.

Hope it works out, linux is really fun when you start to get it working right for you.

nickbunyou, you can download a cd or dvd off the internet and because you have a license (by buying the laptop with Windows) that entitles you to have a “backup” copy so you have the full right to download it.

:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Note: One exception is the BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] chipset. As of 1/30/09 it is not supported by the b43 driver, even thou the BCM4312 802.11a/b/g chipset is.

Just for interest, where can one dld windows install media from?
