So, how can I install leap using CCISS?

I have an old HP Proliant DL360 gen 4 and I would like to install Suse

So I first tried OpenSuse Leap 42.2 but since the server has a Smartarray 6i, which uses CCISS which is no longer supported, the end result is that no hard disks show up.

Now, what it is done in these cases is to add a driver by pressing F5 at the start of the installation, which can be downloaded from HP

In fact, at http://cciss.sourceforge.net/ it says "We do not supply any binary RPMs from this page. HP does supply binary RPMs and driver diskettes (for loading drivers during OS installation) for supported Linux distributions on hp.com. "

However, the drivers shown at hp.com are RPM´s which need a **previously installed **OS.

Then I found that SLES 10 does have a CCISS driver and it installed well, but since it is old it does not have a repository so it´s almost useless.

So, how can I install leap using CCISS? Thanks.

This is a bit tricky and I ran into the same issue myself a while back trying to install 42.2 on an old HP box with the P400 array and as a matter of fact you can use the old CCISS driver as it is still included in the kernel! :slight_smile:

You need to use a kernel parameters to make the magic happen;

cciss.cciss_allow_hpsa=0

However, this alone might in some weird cases not work and you may have to blacklist the HPSA module;

brokenmodules=hpsa
