snd-hda-intel error in yast

Looking to get a fix for snd-hda-intel to install sound card. I now have dummy output
for sound. Have no idea what to do next.

An error occurred during the installation of

7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller

The kernel module snd-hda-intel for sound support could not be loaded.
This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid
IO or IRQ parameters.

Machine is an Acer Aspire 5600U AiO running windows 10 / OpenSuse 13.2
Intel Core i3-3120 @ 2.50 GHz
4 Gb memory 1 Tb hdd.

You give us a message you see somewhere, but you fail to tell where you found it, or when it was displayed while you doing what.

And please use CODE tags around copied/pasted computer text in a post. It is the # button in the tool bar of the post editor. When applicable copy/paste complete, that is including the prompt, the command, the output and the next prompt.

Sorry.

In yast - hardware - sound - yast2 sound - Sound Configuration screen

7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller

Hit the edit button then while

Quick automatic setup

is marked, hit the next button. A screen came up titled error. On it was the message

Is this the same problem as noted toward the later half of this thread: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/509203-No-sound-in-openSUSE-13-2-KDE ??

or is this a different PC ?

Same. I think this better describes the error location.

OK, then from that thread I note the output of /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh is: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=b146301b5c7c371e9cd3ab274813470c24c58d6d

further, I note:

!!Aplay/Arecord output
!!--------------------

APLAY

aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...

ARECORD

arecord: device_list:268: no soundcards found...

From that - important informatin is alsa does not recognize your laptop’s sound device.

This is also clear from the:

The kernel module snd-hda-intel for sound support could not be loaded.
This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid
IO or IRQ parameters.

Did you try adding your regular user to group ‘audio’, save the setting, reboot and test ?

And run the diagnostic script :

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh

again in a konsole/terminal and post here the output URL (when your user belong’s to group ‘audio’).

Further, did you create the /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf file as noted in the previous thread and test each of the noted entries from the HD-Audio-Models.txt file for the ALC88x/898/1150 that you speculated ‘might’ be your laptop’s hardware audio codec ?

I was able to get rid of the dummy output and restore my sound card by adding the group “pulse” to my username.
This can be done by navigating to Yast -> Security and Users -> User and Group Management.

Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

How does that get snd-hda-intel installed to get the sound card working? Which is done under root in yast.

Have you tried it?

It may not work for you but don’t just dismiss the suggestion because you don’t understand it

I tried it. Yast is aware of the sound card. It tries to use the the right module. It claims an error trying to use it.
If someone could point me toward the module snd-hda-intel and the values that I could add.

Thanks

We discussed that in this thread: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/509203-No-sound-in-openSUSE-13-2-KDE

In there we noted that the diganostic script does not identify the hardware audio codec on your laptop. Hence you need to advise us what that hardware audio codec may be.

You could speculate, and try each of the hardware audio codecs from this thread:

ALC88x/898/1150
======================
  acer-aspire-4930g Acer Aspire 4930G/5930G/6530G/6930G/7730G
  acer-aspire-8930g Acer Aspire 8330G/6935G
  acer-aspire Acer Aspire others
  inv-dmic Inverted internal mic workaround
no-primary-hp VAIO Z/VGC-LN51JGB workaround (for fixed speaker DAC)

I even explained in this thread: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/509203-No-sound-in-openSUSE-13-2-KDE on how you could apply that.

No where can I read that :
a. you tried adding your user to group ‘audio’, rebooted and tested, nor
b. that you tried the hardware audio codecs which I explained in a previous thread how to apply.

If you did not understand how to apply then simply ask.

Anyway - its all a mute point now. I’m a volunteer (like everyone else on this forum) and I am going away for two weeks on vacation followed by a business trip.

Good luck to you with your efforts. If I can leave you with only one recommendation - it would be to try the recommendations that have been provided to you by other users, and when the recommendations do not work, take a picture with your camera of the errors (or copy and paste them) and post them here so those trying to help can understand better your problem.

My machine is not on the list. It is not a laptop. It is a desktop called an All-in-One. I’m guessing
no one has worked on this machine yet. Alsa does not know about it. I don’t mind doing the work
for it. I am trying to figure out where the data can be found. What I have to change. Where I put it.
I don’t like Windows. I do want sound.

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/DQ.SUNAA.001

This output from an Alsa debug script indicates Alsa has no clue about the sound card. Didn’t load a driver for it.
Did not recognise the card. Did not load a module. If I could find the card data, the module data, the module
location.

Again, did you try the suggestions ?
a. have you you tried adding your user to group ‘audio’, rebooted and tested, and
b. have you tried the hardware audio codecs which I explained in a previous thread how to apply (just in case one of them does work ? )

Then may I suggest, you write a bug report on openSUSE-13.2. That will get the attention of the openSUSE sound packager, who is also an alsa driver developer. If anyone can get this working, he can.

There is guidance here for bug reports : https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports

You can use your openSUSE username and password to log on to bugzilla. Attach to the bug report the text file ouput of running " /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh --no-upload "

Then check the bug report every day for input from the alsa developer.

Note if you do not apply their suggestions and reply that you specifically applied their suggestions and if you don’t provide the details of an error messages you get when applying their suggestions - they will stop trying to help. My experience is they won’t waste their time if their suggestions are ignored.

Good luck.
.

Thanks, trying it.
