Machine # 1
I recently switch from openSuse 42.1 to 42.2 and have encountered a problem.
Without the latest version installed smplayer does not work properly.
The latest version of smplayer is 17.2.0, but the latest version that opensuse 42.2 offers id 16.11.0-3.1.
My prior version of opensuse [42.1] offered version 17.1.0.
To whom should I address this problem?
smplayer or opensuse?
as an added note: smtube is offered in the latest version in opensuse 42.2.
openSUSE Leap is a fixed release, packages are not automatically updated to newer versions.
You only get bugfix and security updates via the standard repos.

No. 42.1 has version 15.9.0
You must have added some additional repo in the past.
The latest smplayer is available in KDE:Extra, also for 42.2.

If the current version in openSUSE Leap 42.2 doesn’t work for you, you should file a bug report at http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/ (same username/password as here), especially if this is fixed in a later version.
But note that it is the maintainers’ decision whether they will update smplayer to a newer version or just backport the fix.

No, it isn’t.
42.2 only has 16.7.2.
17.1.0 is available from Packman though.
Yes, Thanks Wolfi323. This is quite likely the case.
I added the repo for KDE:Extra, also for 42.2 and now have the latest versions of smplayer and smtube.
