SMplayer and MPV don't have sound, VLC has

Hi folks,

I have a 5.1 audio system (Realtek ALC887-VD) and now my 5.1 worked fine.
VLC didn’t have sound, but after changing its audio output to HDA intel 5.1, it started working.
Now MPV and SMPlayer don’t have sound, and changing output drive (eg. alsa, oss …) didn’t solve anything.
Any suggestion amigos?

thanks

Have you installed the proprietary codecs for those programs from packman.

Yes, as they show the video, but without audio.

Now i have another problem, i changed some settings and now my Amarok doesn’t play anything at all, as i have no device in audio playback device (but vlc plays songs)
what should i do?

what’s the selected audio card, from your problem

I have a 5.1 audio system (Realtek ALC887-VD)

after changing its audio output to HDA intel 5.1

it looks like your system is connected to use your intel device but your OS is setup to use Realtek?
go to yast audio and switch it to intel
This is a desktop right, by intel I’m amusing you mean the hdmi audio that’s decoded by your graphic card?

Hi and thanks for your reply,
the problem is that i don’t have any device in my “audio playback device”:

and the result of aplay -l is:

so intel is actually the realtek device, I’ve never used phonon’s setup and I have no idea why they don’t show up there, run kmix and select intel as the preferred device and check if it’s level hasn’t been set to 0.
if not installed install kmix with

zypper in kmix

but why not run yast audio config

I have exactly same problem

Did you get all your codecs from Packman? If not most packages will not play proprietary media files.

Note the open in openSUSE. Only open source is shipped with the OS. You must install any proprietary stuff you want/need. Packman has that.

did you guys possibly install phonon’s vlc backend?
that one is broken and won’t work remove it, still I don’t get why are you messing with phonon if you have issues with smplayer, smplayer and mpv do not use phonon.

we’re not mind readers, start a new thread and describe your problems your hardware and your OS version, you will get help this is an active comunity, just saying it doesn’t work is not enough, I’m thinking you accidentally switched audio devices and are using the hdmi output and you don’t have anything connected there, or the audio level was set to 0.

What do you mean mind readers ? My problem is exactly same as user described above. I didn’t switched anything. everythin was fine with 12.1, in 42.1 it is somehow broken. When so many people have same problems that means it is global and not local.
