Hi, can anyone explain me this line:

Jul 26 14:00:52 sharwyn smartd[2321]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART
Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 115 to 112

I’m wrong or is smartd saying that my hdd is 115ºC?

that is what it says…but, that doesn’t mean it is 115…

it could be sensing incorrectly…if you can get to the drive lay your
hand on it (CAREFULLY because if SMART is correct its gonna HURT,
quickly!)

well, wait a minute: maybe you can setup SMART to report in celsius,
kelvin, or other…i’ve not read your docs and have no idea what the
default is on your machine (since it may have sensed you are in a area
where celsius is used, or not)…but, i guess you have?

ok, seems like I have to read the smartd man page and configure it…
or just use hddtemp

[vampird@sharwyn]:~$ su - -c "hddtemp /dev/sda"

/dev/sda: WDC WD1600BEVT-22ZCT0: 33°C

33c = 91.4F which is not so far from your previously reported 112, so
i guess the former was F maybe, huh?

good you got it sorted without frying your hand!
