Sluggish Network

I am new to linux and currently trying a couple different distros. As of right now I am running openSuSe on my desktop and ubuntu on my laptop.

Now I know this sounds really stupid before I even ask it but please bare with me. Now when using openSuSe, my network connection seems to be a little slow when connecting to most sites, 5-10s. Once it finds the site and connects, it downloads everything very quickly. Normally I would just blame this on my network, but when running my desktop on the windows 7 side, the network is fine without a hitch.

So to make a long story short, is there some kind of setting within openSuSe that would help speed up the connection time when browsing the internet?

Possible disabling ipv6 will help. There are wiki and how-to’s on how to do that with openSUSE.

And after that, you might get improvement by adding the IP addresses of the name servers supplied by your ISP – add them into the network settings for your network interface – and maybe the gateway address too.

Disabling the ipv6 helped out a lot, thanks, if i have further issues i may just try the other options.

Try to disable IPv6.
If you’re using Firefox as a web browser, you can also try to disable
IPv6 in FF only.
Use about:config and filter for ‘ipv6’.
