I don’t what I could have installed that causes the problem but since today my slab is responding very slow (± 1 sec after mouse click). Opening slab, clicking the programs, documents and places buttons are all responding after one second which is very slow and annoying.
Any idea somebody?
suse 11.0 64 bit
do you have compiz fusion or some effects running.
That will slightly slow the speed down, and depending on the machine it could be noticeable
I also tought it could be compiz but it’s not. If I turn it off it’s still as slow as before. I think I installed some gtk(2) packages yesterday but can’t exactly remember which one and which package I can drop safely.
I noticed the problem has something to do with tooltips. e.g. when I move my mouse over a button in the program list: if a tooltip appears and then I move my mouse away towards another button, it takes about one second before the first button drops the tooltip and focus, after a second the secund button gets focus (= is highlighted). When a button doesn’t have a tooltip, there’s no problem…
Still no ideas anybody? It’s a very annoying problem.
This post could be useful although the if no definite fix mentioned : Very Slow Slab Loading - openSUSE Forums
It somehow got solved after reinstalling esound. Strange what has sound got to do with slab? Well, glad it works again. Only the systemsounds are down at the moment. (like login logout jingle)
Thanks for the feedback
Could be a bug that was in the beta and had to do with pulseaudio settings… I think the workaround was to set the setting to allow local soundserver to be access through the network (somewhere in those lines).
I’ll post when I find the specifics, could be your issue was related?
Cheers,
Wj
I do remember I uninstalled pulseaudio because it was overkill in my opinion. Never thought it could cause any problems related to slab though;)
Just had a quick dig, this was the bug back then : https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=375701
An esound patch was made to fix the issue, so I guess you did the correct thing bij reinstalling it!
