Slow internet surfing

Hello, i decided to install OpenSuse for the first time today, and so far I like it very much. Only one problem so far, and that is when i’m surfing the web with firefox it’s really slow. It’s not slow all the time it only takes some time to start loading the next page when i enter an address or whatever.
It takes about 10 seconds or so until it starts loading, but when it start to load it is fast.

Speedtest shows that i have full speed so that’s not the problem.

Any help would be nice. Thank you.

done the ipv6 disable routine ?
disabled Beagle ?
firewall configured correctly ?

Disable ipv6.

Larry

I’ve disabled ipv6 but not yet restarted the computer, waiting for updates to finish.

Beagle is disabled

Firewall is on default i assume, I have not made any changes at all. Anything I should do?

After reboot speed is much better, still a bit delay sometimes but i guess i’ll have to live with it.

Thanks

for Firefox also enter :
about:config
in the address bar and filter on the keyword ’ ipv6 ’ (network.dns.disableipv6) and set the value to true.

This should result in quicker name resolving.

Hope that helps,
Wj

I forget whether it’s enabled by default or not, but firefox has a ‘prefetch’
option to cause it to preload/cache the links on a page.

about:config
{accept responsibility!}

filter for ‘prefetch’

double click ‘network.prefetch-next’ to change it to ‘false’

Might help, as it will stop firefox from doing things in the background “to
help”.

You can also disable ipv6 in firefox now if you’d like to see if it makes a
different while you wait for the updates.

network.dns.disableIPv6 -> true.

HEY! if you’re doing updates simultaneously… firefox WILL be slow… that’s
to be expected, you’re filling your internet connection with update
downloads… so there’s little room for your webpage requests.

(please say this wasn’t the issue and it’s slow when NOT updating too!)
