Slick screenshot app: Gscrot

Just thought I’d share a fancy screenshot utility, Gscrot:
https://launchpad.net/gscrot

It goes way beyond basic utils like imagemagick and the compiz-screenshot plugin. Copy to clipboard, configure output format, bounded box capturing… nice stuff.

Why do I mention it here? Erm… because it’s only packaged for DEB, and unfortunately the dependencies in this sucker aren’t exactly easy for a linux beginner like me. I’m hoping some other more clever & charitable soul will take a look and give me some points for actually getting this package running on OSuse :smiley:

Go into YaST, Software Management and add the perl modules. You may
have to experiment a bit as the names may not match exactly, but usually
it’s not too hard. For instance, searching for libwww-perl turns up the
package perl-libwww-perl, libgtk2-perl turns up as perl-Gtk2,
libglib-perl is perl-Glib, etc.

Thanks for the tips, Kevin. Actually I’ve already given it a shot. Doing it the way you recommend normally has worked for me in the past. But this one seems extra-special convoluted.

I sorted out 90% of the dependencies. But when trying to get Gscrot running I still found some modules weren’t found. I eventually resorted to searching around on rpm.pbone.net to try to find which RPM packages had the modules I was searching for. I ended up adding some fairly remote repositories, including an opensuse 10.3 repo, even though I’m running 11.1 RC-1. I pulled a few Mandrake RPMs to get some modules I couldn’t find… still bust.

This one has me shaking my screen in frustration. Sadly, I think this one is beyond me.
