Hi,
I have a Sles 9 system that I want to migrate to Opensuse 11.4 on a new box.
The sles 9 system is using software raid 1.
Please comment on my intended plan.
-
Stick a new Hard drive into sles 9 system.
-
Boot with System Rescue CD and clone Sles 9 Drive (/dev/sda) onto a new drive.
i.e. I will not clone the mirrored drive. Therefore my new system will have a broken mirror. -
Stick the new cloned HD into new box. Stick in a new hardrive to fix the broken mirror.
-
I dont expect the system to boot from HD due to new hardware.
-
Insert Suse 11.4 DVD and perform upgrade. Hopefully this works!
-
Copy partition table from /dev/sda to blank hd’s /dev/sdb
-
Use mdadm to sync the mirror drives.
-
Uses Gparted to expand the drives to use max capacity of new drives.
I kindly request the advice of linux gurus on the plan above… Will it work? Is there another way of doing it?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Basheer
