SLES 11 SP1 on HP Proliant DL360 G5

Hi Linux gurus, I need your help and knowledge once more.

I’m trying to install SLES 11 SP1 on an old HP DL360 G5 server. This server has an HP Smart Array E200i controller so CCISS drivers must be installed.
The installation DVD loads these drivers ok and recognizes the 2 logical drives (4 146GB SAS drives with RAID 1+0 configuration) without any problem. Installation runs really smooth but after the very first reboot an error is shown and no OS is loaded.

Any idea and/or advice will be really welcome,

Panchux

you are welcome to seek advice here, but BE ADVISED that these are the
openSUSE forums and many of the answers might be from folks who have
never run SLES (or maybe never even heard of it before) and
you are likely much better off if you seek assistance from the
Attachmate/SUSE forums (where the SUSE Linux Enterprise gurus hang out),

Thank you for your advise, although it doesn’t help much.

Posted similar problem before on Novell’s SLES forum without success and since a lot of SLES users are openSUSE users (like me) I thought it was worth try.

For the record openSUSE 12.1 installs and runs just fine on this server.

Thanks again,

Pancho

Hi
Under what username and forum? I see no posts for your username on the Attachmate forums?

I don’t know anything about SLES, but you don’t even specify the error. No
way we can even try to help you.

sure it did…it nicely pointed you to the place where you should be
getting all the help you need…

i didn’t say you shouldn’t post here…and am not saying you did
anything wrong by thinking here was worth a try…

you tried…ok with me…ok if you come back everyday to see if you got
the answer you need…and, you can do that for all you want…but,
still the place to ask is over on the SUSE side…

and anyway: since you are an openSUSE user and a SUSE user you must
know that there is enough difference that an openSUSE only user (like
most of us here) could only guess about fixing . . . (a guess you can
make as well)

lots of folks around here say this often: Use what works.

DenverD, following your advice I did post the problem on the SLES forums and Malcolm gave me some ideas already.

It’s pitty but I can’t install openSUSE 12.1 since I need to install Zimbra Collaboration Suite and there is no version for openSUSE.

Your post was not unpolite at all and it did help me after all, I really appreciate it. I didn’t mean to be rude in anyway, please forgive me if It sounded that way.

This problem is solved.

Following nothing but a hunch a coworker found the solution creating a separate 512MB primary partition for /boot.
This partition is inside the RAID since we cannet add another disk nor take one out of the raid.

To Maxi, I spent hours and hours of testing, reading and investigating the problem. You were just lucky but I can’t argue with positive results.
