Skype stopped working

My Skype (32bit) suddenly stopped working. I found a new version called skypeforlinux for 64bit. I installed it but lost all my regular phone number contacts and it looks like it only allows calls to Skype accounts. Can someone please confirm this?

Best to my knowledge there is no stable 64-bit version of Skype.

I do know Microsoft have an alpha(?) or beta(?) version of Skype that they are asking users to test, but they have qualifications stating it is not yet fully functional.

.

I briefly tested Skype 4.3 under Ubuntu and it starts at least. What exactly “stopped working” means? It does not start? It starts but cannot do something?

Sorry, I was so annoyed I couldn’t think properly. 4.3 started but when I tried to log in it just asked me to log in again and again. Skypeforlinux 1.9.0.2 allows me to log in but only Skype users show and I cannot call regular telephone company numbers. After calming down I read that Skypeforlinux only works on 64bit machines. Fine for my current notebook but not for my friends’ 32bit boxes or several computers I have at home.

Did you get any Error when you start Skype 4.3 in Konsole as User:

skype

Following your suggestion, I removed Skypeforlinux 1.9.0.2 using zypper. I re-installed 4.3, started it from a console and to my great surprise it worked normally. I felt really stupid! My inability to log in last night must have been a temporary Skype maintenance problem. What confused me was while I could not log in with 4.3, version 1.9.0.2 DID let me log in. So I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Thanks for the help, and I apologize for taking your time.
