skype sound options: discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

When I talk to anybody on Skype, the sound is really slow, it sounds like I am a robot. Its running at maybe 1/2 normal speed.

I am using Xine backend and internal microphone.

Sound Card: Intel Audio 82801I (Intel ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controler
2.6.34-Desktop (opensuse 11.3) (x86-64).

Skype: 2.1.0.81 Installed Via Wrapper

Sound and Mixer Settings are fine via KRecord.

Any Suggestions Please Let me Know.

I think its a bug with 2.1.0.81 as per this:

I have a similar problem, also with 2.1.0.81. This is a good tip, I nearly threw away ma microphone!

I am interested to see what sound card you are running, i am thinking of upgrading my kernel to 2.6.35 and see if it makes any difference, I spoke with various members on irc and using 2.6.35 was at least one difference with somebody who had it working with this skype version.

Mine is a 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller

I also have the 8280 but I have revision I 8280I ICH9 Audio Controller so there must be some connection their?

I have an integrated ATI IXP SB400 AC97 Audio Controller with the exact same problem. It’s not only in skype though, it’s ALSA that seems to be the problem. I’m using an older version of Skype that’s using OSS and that works fine. The reason I think ALSA is the problem is because the problem persists when I try to record a sound directly through ALSA using arecord. Try this command to see what I mean: arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav and play it back with: aplay foo.wav
It sounds exactly the same! And with arecord you’re bypassing all third party apps. Let me know if you find a solution somewhere! I’ve been looking for a long time, and I have tried everything I can think of. BTW, I’m on OpenSUSE 11.3.
