Skype on openSuse 12.3: what do i need to run this

hello dear Suse-Experts,

well i am going to travel in summer.

For stayin in contact via telephone i think it would be best to install skype.
is this true!?` Is skype the best way to stay in contact on a cheap and unexpensive way. (besides mails)
