Skype invite for video chat?

I have successfully downloaded and installed Skype for openSUSE and have successfully tested the Logitech webcam, however I am buffled when I have to invite someone for a webchat. There’s no dedicated button that says “invite for webchat” or something of similar nature.
While at it, how do you start a video chat in Pidgin? That one is also missing the button.
I am not new to linux so I don’t mind somewhat more technical answer.
P.S. I learned linux with ubuntu but now that I switched to openSuse I found even more welcoming linux distro than Ubuntu. Great job guys!

i too experianced the same problem.

skype is foremost a telephone…and, then they added text chat…and
then they added video…

i’ve never done a video (text) chat, but i have done plenty of phone
calls where i can see the other, and they can see me…

all you need is the “Skype name” of someone you know with skype and a
working video, and click on add a skype contact…and follow your
nose…then, when you see them online just call’em…

note: skype is only good for free contacting others who have skype BUT
also GREAT for making very low cost telephone calls anywhere on earth…

why don’t you put your skype name on your profile page here and then
see if someone here will call you…i will i happen to see you on
line…well, first they will have to add you to there list of skype
contacts and most likely you will have to approve of them contacting
you…

the only people who don’t want to approve their friends are the ones
who want girls/women to call them…i get so tired of that

In skype, only when a call is established, you can open the video. (There is also a setting to do video automatically whenever the call starts).

Thank you syampillai, I’ve already checked the option that you mentioned so I should expect the video to work when my friends are on skype. It was kind of confusing, win version as I remember had a button that said “start video”…

When the call is in progress, a “Start video” option is available if you click the options.

have you test yet?

i have temporarily added a “varelov” in Miami and two in Bulgaria to
my list of contacts…but have so far not seen any come on line to
test their video…

I have added DenverDRobinson on Contacts as well but I admit I haven’t spend much time on Skype these days.
