How can I get skype to work with linux 11.2?
Can anyone help?
I moved this thread to Applications, as it was in the wrong subforum area before. Hopefully it will get some help here.
Skype works in opensuse 11.2.
Tell us what you have done, and what is the problem.
You can download the rpm file from skype’s website. Select version skype-2.1.0.47-suse111.i586.
There are certain other programs to install first.
See Skype HOWTO - openSUSE
Then install skype, and it should work
I am also having some problems here. Skype is installed and running fine but the microphone on my laptop isn’t working. I tried to make a call, tried the test calls but only the speakers are working. Everything works fine using Windows on the same Laptop
It’s an ASUS with a Realtech High Definition sound card.
The other problem is with Cheese. The webcam imagies are upside down using Cheese. This is also okay and shown properly on Windows.
Can someone please help.

The thing I found was that the microphone is sometimes muted - go into
the recording controls (in openSUSE, not in Skype) and make sure the mic
is not muted and the volume is turned up.

i did all that but the microphone is just not working. Could it be a driver problem? i realise that Windows has a Realtec driver but Linux not.
Do you know why cheese shows the images upside downß
is there a working webcam programme for KDE?
also click the: config sys icon then the sound icon and under audio capture if you use usb mic on your webcam move it up .
Are you referring to the KDE system settings? I am using a German system so I have to try and figure out what you mean.
yep… kde
its the wrench and screwdriver icon
and i must add… the other icon is a speaker click on it and on the left pane you have audio out and audio in, check audio in

you need to start your own thread with a subject kinda like:
mike not working in Skype
that way you will attract the attention of our famous SOUND guru
(oldcpu)…or maybe it is a laptop driver problem…have yuou looked
in the Hardware Compatibility List http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/ maybe
it is a know problem with that mike …

Can you provide more information to help you get your mic working in general?
What mic? external ? internal ?
Please also provide the information recommended to be provided as described in the second half of our multimedia stickie: Welcome to multimedia sub-area - openSUSE Forums
another page worth looking at: Microphone - openSUSE
It’s now working - yes! It’s an internal microphone on the laptop. What I did was a little googling. I found the Realtec driver here:
RealTek Soundcard Driver Download – Open Drivers Download Service
I downloaded it, compiled it and now it’s working!
thanks for trying to help though guys. I hope that this will also help somebody else
I still don’t understand why openSuse didn’t install this driver by default since it’s an open driver :\
I am still having the problem with Cheese. The quality of the webcam images are perfect but the images are upside down. It’s an integrated webcam. Like I said it#s perfect on Windows using the same Laptop.
I tried to use the KDE WebCam programme but it#s not starting up. Any info on this?
Thanks.
