Skype at Suse 11.1

I am using suse 10.3 and I’m planning to upgrade my OS to 11.1. However, there is something important before I do the upgrade.

I use skype ver much. I install the latest version for linux the one that the file is called: skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586.rpm

Does somebody knows if this package works in suse 11.1 as well in 10.3 ?

Thanks in advance for the feedback

Best regards

I’ve installed it on my openSUSE 11.1 and it seems to work properly.

I also have it in one machine running openSUSE 11.0 and two other machines running openSUSE 11.1. In all these three PCs I have no problems at all with Skype.

it also works for me… but do not forget to set up AppArmor to limit it…

skype also very good platform to take trojan horses to your system

Works great with both 32 bit and 64 bit openSuSe 11.1. Don’t open any attachments from anyone and you will be fine. I use it daily.

Thanks everybody for the feedback. It was very usefull.

And 11.1… is coming into my machine…

maybe reading my post on video problems with skype on 11.1 will be useful. I hope that you will have more luck with your configuration. Bernd

Right, it’s working without any problem - if you solved all audio related problems whats are appearing for most 11.1 users.

I just installed Suse 11.1 and when I try to install Skype, it say’s Skype needs,

libQtDBus.so.4
libQtGui.so.4

however I can’t seem to locate those packages!>:( Anyone have any tips to point me to the correct Url’s

Thank you in advance

quote from that cite:
that way YaST will:

  • users receive messages via Skype Chat to download and run a file
  • the filename is called sp.exe

are you saying that sp.exe will actually run (and install the trojan)
on your Linux??

i don’t think so!

anyway, anyone lax enough to run an unknown executable from an
untrusted source DESERVES to be infected…

familiarize yourself with the SUSE way of installing new software…it
is NOT to go looking all over the net…nope, instead use YaST…

see, for example: http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts

but before you search YaST for libqt4 you should

search the forum postings to see if your answer already exists…

BECAUSE, there may be something you need to know about skype AND
openSUSE specificially:

like, a search on libQtDBus.so.4 skype
gave 13 hits http://forums.opensuse.org/search.php?searchid=1026669

You should install the following packages:
libqt4-x11 and libqt4. Both are available from the Update repository.
Good luck.
