I’ve updated Skype 4.3 on my openSUSE 13.1 x86_64… but… skype pause the system sounds… for example, I always have amarok on systray, supose I’m watching a video on VLC, amarok stoped, skype online… someone write me… and, vlc change to pause, skype notify me about the incoming text, amarok start to play…
Do you have PulseAudio activated? (YaST->Hardware->Sound->Other->PulseAudio Configuration, logout/login or reboot for full effect)
Since 4.3 Skype only supports PulseAudio, so probably PulseAudio gets started when Skype plays sound.
As PulseAudio blocks everything else from accessing the sound device, all other applications that are not using PulseAudio cannot play back sound any more.
If PulseAudio is activated, all applications should use it though.
And check that you have alsa-plugins-pulse installed, that will re-route applications that use ALSA directly to PA instead.
PulseAudio is already enable and alsa-plugins-pulse (both, 32 and 64 bit) are installed
But is it running when you log in? Check in the process list. (CTRL+ESC)
Maybe not all environment variables are set correctly. Your problem definitely sounds like KDE is not using PulseAudio, but ALSA directly.
Try to disable PA, press OK, enter YaST again and enable it again.
Afterwards please check that the PHONON_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE is not set:
echo $PHONON_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE
Otherwise I have no idea.
Done, and skype still do what it wants
Hm.
I did have another idea in the meantime:
Are you maybe using phonon-backend-vlc?
Which audio output device do you have set in VLC?
Try to change that to “PulseAudio” (even if you are not using phonon-backend-vlc), although “auto” should work as well.
If you use phonon-backend-gstreamer-0_10, make sure that you have gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good installed, as this contains the gstreamer pulseaudio plugin.
I found it… I have to comment the line
### Cork music/video streams when a phone stream is active
load-module module-role-cork
on the file /etc/pulse/default.pa
I think it is better for you to uninstall the installed Skype and again re install the same. If they have no big problem then you can get a solution for the same. I think this may be due to the spontaneous functioning of number of applications. You can try this first and if not working you can search for other solution.
