Hey,
skanpage in Tumbleweed is crashing (again). In Leap 16 it’s working.
Output in Tumbleweed is:

tesseract-ocr installed
I have seen the older forum post re. skanpage. The solution described was to install tesseract-ocr. In my case with this version this does not work anymore.
Any other ideas what I can do?

No. In itself your repos look OK, but … I have no idea what is in that Local Repository, nor do I know whether some locked packages ae involved.
Check that you’re not impacted as per this topic:
The next step is to determine whether the crash also occurs with scanimage -L or scanimage --test, and to examine the coredump from coredumpctl info. That should help identify the library that is actually faulting instead of assuming the issue is the HP plugin itself.
Bug report linked there as well.

Yes, I had quite some struggle to install hplip (inkl plugin), but in the end I figured it out and I would say hplip is ok and running (as far as I can say)…
My scanner (HP Scanjet Pro 2000 S2) is available in the HP Device Manager (hplip).

Status:
I just did a complete fresh installation of Tumbleweed (on test laptop).
All default, no changes. Everything is fine and running, then:
Install skanpage and hplip (without hp-lip-scan-utils)
run skanpage =>all ok. There is no scanner there yet, but it’s running
run hplip setup. Plugins added. Scanner recognized. =>all ok
run hplip =>all ok
run skanpage => crash

The next step is to determine whether the crash also occurs with scanimage -L or scanimage --test, and to try another scanning application perhaps.
Does the crash also occur when running scanimage -L or scanimage --test? In any case, examine the coredump from coredumpctl info after the scanning utility crashes, and post the output here. That should help identify the library that is causing the crash.

Skanpage is working here in tumbleweed using brother scanner.
Try another scanner application to see if it will work, if it still not working chances are
it is a hardware (scanner) problem.
You can try xsane or gscan2pdf.

(end of tests…). And all of this on a fresh installed & updated Tumbleweed.
As suspected, the coredump shows the segfault occurring inside libsane-hpgt2500.so.1, which is the SANE backend for HP G2500 scanners. This happens during backend/device discovery.
The same issue as described here…
I had never seen or used coredumpctl until you mentioned it. I did run the two dumps you suggested. I don’t see a cause but am not sure what I am looking at. I don’t see any real critical looking messages. I have enclosed them below if someone knows how to interpret them.
I may try uninstalling current hplip version and going back a few versions and reinstalling to see if my theory of hp problem is right.
