Since yesterday's snapshot, plasmashell crashes constantly

I did the usual upgrade yesterday and today plasmashell started crashing and restarting sporadically, then more constantly until it just made it impossible to launch anything or restart using the GUI. I rolled back before the upgrade and although my system isn’t as unstable, plasmashell keeps crashing and restarting, panels keep appearing and disappearing, Dr. Konqi just stopped informing of the crashes.

This is the last thing I got from the error “reporter” that can’t send reports.

This is a dump I got earlier using journal:

I can consistently cause plasmashell crashes by changing themes, window decorations, icons, etc.
Help please, I don’t want to nuke everything again.

P.S. I also just caught gamescope causing constant plasmashell crashes.

Running KDE and did just a zypper dup, no problem seen yet.

That is something I did never do likely, I am fine with KDE out-of-the-box. Probable good to describe in detail one way to reproduce the problem.

Both susepaste logs show the same problem:

Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
#0  __pthread_kill_implementation (threadid=<optimized out>, signo=signo@entry=11, no_tid=no_tid@entry=0) at pthread_kill.c:44
44	      return INTERNAL_SYSCALL_ERROR_P (ret) ? INTERNAL_SYSCALL_ERRNO (ret) : 0;

Origin seem indeed Qt/KDE.

No matter where you stand on desktop customization, a Desktop Environment shouldn’t be so poorly designed as to take down the whole GPU stack just because you changed from Breeze to Breeze dark icons.

This is what I get when running gamescope right now:

And the dump:
https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/e21de64f3497

Okay, tried setting in KDE Settings “Colors & Themes” the Global Theme for openSUSE to Breeze Dark and that works without and problem, no crash or whatever.

I did run zypper dup this morning:

> cat /etc/os-release
NAME="openSUSE Tumbleweed"
# VERSION="20250228"
ID="opensuse-tumbleweed"
ID_LIKE="opensuse suse"
VERSION_ID="20250228"
PRETTY_NAME="openSUSE Tumbleweed"

I do not have gamescope installed.

As no other Tumbleweed user sees such issue and reported it, this issue seems particular to your system. So no general issue.
Open a bugreport.

I did:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500930

Seem to be having the same issue . Also remains present after rolling back to a previous snapshot.

I uploaded my crash report in your bugreport.

Check if you have a corrupted cache folder in your home, I just found one.
