Simplescreenrecorder says H.264 is not installed but it is

Hello,

I enabled Packman repository through YaST and installed x264, libx264, h264enc, x265, ffmpeg, and other restricted codecs and simplescreenrecorder. However, simplescreenrecorder says that H.264 is not installed. Not sure what I’m missing to get simplescreenrecorder to recognize that H264 encoder library is installed. Didn’t have this problem on Leap 15.5. but using a clean install of Leap 15.6. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you done a zypper dup --from Packman --allow-vendor-change to get ffmpeg-packages from Packman?

You have to substitute Packman with the name of your Packman-Repo.

It is not clear if you installed just a list of packages (you thought you need), or if you also did the Vendor Swtich to Packman.

zypper dup --from <Packman>

(where should of course be replaces by the Alias, Number or Name of the Packman repo as it is on your system).

Haha, same time

Using “Software Management” in YaST, I had searched for and selected all the relevant codecs, manually selecting to install each one from the Packman repositories from the Versions tab. Using your suggested zypper options greatly made that process easier and it selected some packages that I missed that weren’t changed to Packman. After running the command and rebooting, SSR now finds and can use the H264 codec. Thank you @Sauerland and @hcvv !

SUSE Linux was my first desktop Linux distro back in 2008-2009. I distro hopped quite a bit. openSUSE is now my home since 2019 and my recommended distro. Grateful to the helpful community which also makes a huge difference to adoption and support. thanks again.

The “Vendor change” is by far the more important action to get uncrippled multi-media. Until now I never needed to install specific codecs from Packman. Just the “Vendor change” after installation.

Nice it works for you now.
