The internet tells me that simple scan can save in jpeg format, but I can’t find that setting and all I get is output as ,pdf. What am I doing wrong?

When you click on “Scan as image”, does it still only save as pdf?
And additionally, the file save dialog has the possibility to save as jpeg:
Yes. No other option.
Which DE do you use? How does your “Save as…” dialog look like?
That option does not show on my copy.
I use XFCE and Simple Scan. If I select Image, scan the document, clicked on the download/save button there is an option in the lower right pane to select the file type.
I am using XFCE.
I finally found it. In my copy it’s in the bottom left hand corner, somewhat different and not very obvious.

I kept looking at the bottom right, having problems seeing the bottom left in tiny letters. Even with reading glasses. I feel pretty stupid.
