Note: This is - as far as I can see - not due to any action on my part. Any hints?

I’m on 15.2, as well. Just did a zypper up without any issues. Maybe you were directed to a mirror that wasn’t up or just syncing? But I’m not sure what download.opensuse.org-504df5cf is. Can you post:
zypper lr -d

That’s quite a lot. “download.opensuse.org-504df5cf” is a community repo. Unless you urgently need updates you might disable it and just look there for updates from time to time.
About “download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.2/oss/” I’m not sure. Here the “zypper ref” worked well. I think here are some similar threads in this forum relating to issues with update repo. It might be an issue with a mirror. Maybe try again a little later.
BTW, it’s better to post the terminal output in code tags. (The hash symbol in the icon bar of the editor.)
