Two days ago software updates failed with the message:

What might be the reason for that failure and how can it be fixed?

Not sure, could be the key has expired, but also was an issue with download.o.o.
Can you try refreshing again (zypper -vvv ref -f), else might need to contact the repostiory maintainer and ask them to check.

Meanwhile the problem is fixed.

Repositories 1 and 2 signaled a signature failure on Thursday and Friday. I temporarily deactivated them, so I got some updates yesterday. Today (2019-07-13), I activated both repositories and made an update – and the error was gone.
So, I thank you all.and hope being helpful myself one way or the other in the future.
