Shutdown Problems

Hi,
I just installed 11.3 and Gnome yesterday and all went well except that the system will not shut down, it simply reboots. I’ve tried shutting it down using halt and shutdown now as root and each time the machine reboots. I didn’t have this problem with 11.1. Any ideas?

Can you try to boot into runlevel 3 by rebooting and then typing “3” followed by <enter> on the boot selection menu? Once the system is started, log in as yourself, and issue:

user@machine:~>su -
<password>
machine:~ # poweroff

Does that shut down your machine or reboot as well? If this works properly, I’d say it’s something with Gnome that’s not working.

you can also do this:

su -
<enter password>
shutdown now

Hi, thank-you for the quick suggestions, however they didn’t work. I did take the extreme step of doing a fresh re-install and that didn’t work either. I’m wordering if it could be a hardware issue?

I have a problem with shutdown also, see bugzilla bug 619754. Please add
your comments as it sounds like they maybe related. Its been going on at
least since 11.3 MS5-6. It still exists on my released version, fresh
install.

Read post I just sent. Also its not hardware on my system since I also have
11.2 installed and it shuts down properly. May be the kernel apparently on
some machines.

Have the same problem. I think it`s a kernelproblem. This bug was also in 11.3 RC1 and RC2. Opensuse 11.2 and the Systems before were OK.

Greetings

Thanks for the information. I will wait and see what happens.
